I’m not going to lie: social media is addicting. Something about liking, tagging, retweeting, and double tapping is absorbing. But did you know that you can use it to attract readers, too?
As I mentioned in one of my past posts, you can use social media to promote your novels. Today, I’m going to elaborate on how you can do so, going in depth in discussing how to use Facebook to your advantage.
Facebook, with over a billion users, is the obvious first step to take when marketing on social media. But posting a status on your Facebook wall, urging your friends to buy your book, isn’t the way to do it (though it can’t hurt to get a few extra sales). To really reach a large number of people, you’re going to need to set up an author page-one that people like instead of “friend.” To do this, click on “Create a page” and follow Facebook’s built-in instructions to set up your author page (be sure to pick “Artist, Band, or Public Figure” when prompted to do so!). After you’ve created your page, there are several ways to advertise yourself:
Hope this helped :)

After you’ve created your page, there are several ways to advertise yourself:
- Create the page before you publish your book. That way, you can get a head start on attracting interest and you can mention it in your book.
- Ask people you know to like your page to get it up and running. Every like counts!
- Be sure to put links to your Facebook page on your other social media, such as your website, Twitter, etc.
- Like I’ve said before, don’t inundate your page with posts begging people to buy or download. This gets annoying very quickly, and is likely to drive people away from your page, instead of to buy your book.
- But DO be sure to advertise sales, recent publishings, giveaways, and any changes related to your books. In moderation, these posts are very effective.
- Post pictures! Pictures attract more interest than more statuses.
- Share articles or news related to your book’s topic. For example, if you’ve written about butterflies, share that article you read about a new species of butterflies being discovered.
- Post about milestones! If you’ve sold one hundred copies or got five hundred likes, post about it. Be sure to thanks your fans for their support.
- Make yourself accessible. Link yourself to your Amazon page, or any other places that you’re selling your book.
- Create events. For example, if you’re having a book signing, make a public event for it that people can RSVP to. This serves two functions-it puts all the information of the signing in one accessible place, and does some built-in marketing, as all the people who RSVP yes will have the event displayed on their walls. It’s a win-win.
